Open in App
Solution

Silent mutation:

A silent mutation is a change in the sequence of nucleotide bases that constitutes DNA strands without a change in amino acids.

Nonsense mutation:

A nonsense mutation is a point mutation that leads to a change of a codon to the stop codon.

Differences between silent and non-sense mutation:

Silent mutationNonsense mutation
  1. It does not change the function of the amino acid or proteins.
  1. It creates truncated and mostly non-functional protein.
2. Silent mutations are mutations in which the amino acid sequence is not altered2. The nonsense mutation changes the amino acid sequence.
3. Example: Laron dwarfism3. Example: Cystic fibrosis
