What is the difference between totipotent cells and pluripotent cells?
Totipotent cells:
1.Totipotent stem cells are capable of giving rise to any part of the body.
Examples:
The meristematic cells in plants and the zygote in humans.
Pluripotent cell:
1.Pluripotent cells can give rise to specific body organs
Examples: The embryonic cells in humans.
Difference between totipotent cells and pluripotent cells:
Totipotent cells | Pluripotent cells |
1.Totipotent cells are the most versatile stem cell type. | 1.Pluripotent stem cells are not as versatile as totipotent cells. |
2. They are formed after the fertilization of an egg cell by a sperm cell. | 2. These cells are formed by reprogramming of somatic cells. |
3.Totipotent cells are capable of differentiating into more than 200 cells in humans.
| 3. They are differentiating into three germs layers into embryo. |
