What is the difference between armature and rotor?
The difference between armature and rotor:
Armature | Rotor |
1. An armature is a coil that is used in generators that carries current through it. | 1. A rotor on the other hand consists of a field magnet which is used to turn the motor shaft. |
2. An armature rotates itself to produce a change in the magnetic flux. | 2. A rotor remains stationary and rotates the shaft to produce a changing magnetic flux. |
For example an armature is used in the generators whereas rotors are used in induction motors.
