What is the difference between ACE and ARB drugs?

Open in App
Solution

ACE And ARB Drugs:

  1. The renin-angiotensin system (RAS) regulates blood pressure by controlling the volume of fluids in the body.
  2. High blood pressure and heart failure are treated with angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs), also called angiotensin II receptor antagonists.
  3. They're also administered after a heart attack for people with chronic renal disease. Irbesartan, valsartan, losartan, and candesartan are some of the medications available.
  4. ACE inhibitors block angiotensin I from converting to angiotensin II
ACE DrugsARB Drugs
1.Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) is a key component of the RAS.1.Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ARBs) inhibit the function of the hormone angiotensin II.
2.It transforms angiotensin I, a hormone, into angiotensin II, an active vasoconstrictor.2. This hormone causes blood vessels to constrict, causing blood pressure to rise. Angiotensin II also causes the body to retain salt and water, which raises blood pressure even further.
3. It prevents BK breakdown.4. It does not prevent BK breakdown.
4. Dry cough5. No dry cough
