Solution

A solution is a homogeneous mixture of two or more components dissolved together uniformly.

  • A solution is formed when a solute and a solvent combines.
  • Solute: The component of a solution which is present in a lesser quantity or a substance that is dissolved.
  • Solvent: The component of a solution which is present in a larger quantity or a substance in which solute is dissolved.

Aqueous solution

Non-aqueous solution

1. A solution in which the solvent is water is called as an aqueous solution.1. A solution in which the solvent is not water is called as a non-aqueous solution.
2. In aqueous solution, solute is dissolved in water.2. In non-aqueous solution, solute is dissolved in a solvent other than water like Carbon disulphide (CS2), Benzene (C6H6), Ethanol (C2H5OH) etc.
3. Example: Sugar (C12H22O11) dissolved in Water (H2O) is an aqueous solution.3. Example: Sulphur (S) powder dissolved in carbon disulphide in which the solvent is carbon disulphide.
