Question

What is the difference between free-floating respiration and protoplasmic respiration?

Open in App
Solution

In free-floating respiration, carbohydrates are used as a respiratory substrate whereas in protoplasmic respiration proteins are used as a respiratory substrate. Free-floating respiration is the normal respiration process of an organism and protoplasmic respiration takes place when all carbohydrates and fats are used up and when the organisation is under starvation.
