Which does not need any other unit for its derivation.
like kg,meter,time etc.
there are 7 fundamental unit or base unit.
all other are derived from base unit
The seven fundamental quantities are

length
mass
time
electric current
temperature
amount of substance
and luminous intensity.
and their units are fundamental unit.
