What is the difference between impulse and momentum?

Open in App
Solution

Impulse:

Impulse is basically a force that acts for a very short duration. It is normally represented as the product of the force applied (F) and the time (t, which is very small).

For example - when a batsman hits the cricket ball the force applied by him acts for a very short duration on the ball.

Impulse= force×time

Momentum:

Momentum is an indicator of the amount of motion a body possesses. It is represented as the product of the object mass (m) and its velocity (v).

- momentum = mass×velocity
