Question

What is the difference between leucoderma and albinism?

Open in App
Solution

Leucoderma Vitiligo
It is an inherited genetic disorder. It is not a genetic disorder and children are born with normal skin.
Melanocytes are present throughout the skin but they do not produce the pigment melanin. Melanocytes are destroyed by the immune system gradually leading to patchy skin. So melanocytes are absent or reduced in regions.
It is irreversible. It can be reversed by controlling the immune attack and helping the melanocytes grow back.
