What is the difference between impulse and momentum?
Momentum | Impulse |
1. It is given by the product of the velocity and mass of the object. | 1. When force is applied to the object for a short duration then it is known as an impulse. |
2. In a collision, the change in momentum of an object is equal to the impulse experienced by an object. | 2. Impulse is calculated as the integral of a force over a period of time for which it acts |
3. Takes into the account only the instantaneous effect of the force that acts on the system | 3. Taking into account the effects of both the forces acting on the system and the duration of time for which it acts |
