Open in App
Solution

Metal oxides

Metal hydroxides

The formation of metal oxide occurs when metal reacts with oxygen. The formation of metal hydroxide occurs when metal reacts with water.
In metal oxides, metal works as a cation whereas oxide works as an anion. In metal oxides, metal works as a cation whereas hydroxide works as an anion.
Metal oxides are less soluble compared to metal hydroxides.Metal hydroxides are highly soluble in nature due to freshly precipitates of hydroxides.
Metal oxides are basic in nature.Metal hydroxides are extremely basic in nature among all the bases.
Example: Iron(II) oxide(Fe2O3), Chromium oxide(Cr2O3), Zinc oxide(ZnO), etc.Example: It includes the compounds such as Lithium hydroxide(LiOH), Potassium hydroxide(KOH), Rubidium hydroxide(RbOH), etc.
