What is the difference between metamorphosis and retrogressive metamorphosis?
Metamorphosis:
In biology, a term, which illustrates a transition in structure, shape, or function is metamorphosis.
Retrogressive metamorphosis:
A form of metamorphosis in which a free-swimming, aquatic larva exhibiting notochord converts into a non-chordate and sessile adult is termed retrogressive metamorphosis.

1. In this a variation in shape is usually associated with a shift in habitat or behavior. | 1. It involves the complete loss of advanced features, which prevailed at the time of the larval stage. |
2. The insects and amphibians go through a metamorphosis as a part of their life cycle. | 2. Some of the urochordates via neoteny do not display any changes related to metamorphosis in their larva. As a consequence, sexual reproduction by mature larval form takes place. |
