(1) In an unpolarised light, the vibrations of the electric vector occur symmetrically in all possible directions in a plane perpendicular to the direction of propagation of light.
(2) In polarised light, the vibrations of the electric vector are in a plane perpendicular to the direction of propagation of light and they are confined to a single direction.
