What is the difference between pulmonary and systemic circulation?
Pulmonary and systemic circulation:
Pulmonary circulation | Systemic circulation |
In the pulmonary circulation, blood is pumped to numerous body areas via the aorta. | Blood is pumped to the lungs by pulmonary arteries in the systemic circulation. |
Pulmonary circulation occurs in the lungs and heart. | It takes place between the heart and the rest of the body. |
Deoxygenated blood is collected from the system of veins, and venules, and sent back to the heart. | The pulmonary veins return oxygenated blood from the lungs to the heart. |
