Question

What is the difference between secant and diameter ?

Open in App
Solution

When you draw a circle and a line (AB) that passes through the centre (O) of the circle and its ends (A and B) are limited by the circumference of the circle is the “diameter” - AOB.

If the line (CD) does not pass through the centre of the circle and its ends (C and D) are limited by the circumference of the circle is the “chord” - CD.

If the line (EFGH) does not pass through the centre of the circle and its ends (E and H) are outside the circumference of the circle , while F and G lie on the circumference of the circle is the “secant” - EH.
