Solution

Dear student,

The difference between Solar and Lunar eclipse is:

Solar eclipse: It is the eclipse of the Sun. The moon is in between the sun and the earth. The umbra and penumbra are the parts of the moon’s shadow. It can occur only at the time of a New Moon.

Lunar eclipse: It is the eclipse of the Moon. The earth is in between the sun and the moon. The umbra and penumbra are the parts of the earth's shadow. The moon passes through the shadow of the earth. It is possible only during the Full Moon phases.
