Question

What is the difference between the current in the external circuit and inside an electric cell?

Solution

The general differences are listed as follows:

Current in external circuitCurrent inside a cell
  1. Current in the external circuit flows from the positive terminal of a cell to the negative terminal.
  2. The reason for this is the attraction of electrons towards the positive terminal of the battery.
  1. Current inside the cell flows from the negative terminal of the cell to the positive terminal.
  2. The reason for this is the depletion of electrons that happens due to the generation of EMF across the cell.

This is the major difference between the current passing through the cell in both cases.
