Question

What is the difference between the gravitational force and the force of gravity?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Force of Gravity and gravitational force sounds similar but in physics, they are analysed as two different concepts.
  2. Gravitational force acts between any two objects possessing mass. If two objects of masses m1 and m2 are separated by a distance d then the gravitational force between them is directly proportional to the product of masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them. F=Gm1m2d2
  3. Force of Gravity is a natural property of the earth due to which it attracts all objects near to it. The force of gravity plays a significant role in sustaining life on earth. The gravitational pull between the earth and the sun has developed a safe atmosphere on our earth.
  4. Gravitational force can be zero that is when distance between objects is infinity. Force of gravity can be zero only at center of the earth. Its range is considered as infinity.
  5. Force of gravity is the weakest fundamental force still it holds together the entire solar systems and galaxies.
