  1. A wavefront is a fictitious surface that represents matching wave points that vibrate in synchrony.
  2. A wavefront is a collection of all spots in a medium where the wave has the same phase.
  3. This might be the location of all the crests and troughs or any period in between.
  4. A point source of light forms a spherical wavefront, a line source forms a cylindrical wavefront and an area source forms a plane wavefront as shown in the diagram:
