Question

What is the difference between vitiligo albinism and leucoderma?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

Both the diseases are quite same. In both, the melanin production is lost because the melanocytes gets destroyed. The only difference is the cause of occurring of disease. Leucoderma occurs due to some external factor like cut, burn, etc. on the skin, which destroys melanin producing cells, while vitiligo albinism occurs by autoimmune disorder where the immune attacks the melanin producing cells and destroys them. The patches on the skin are formed in both the cases.

Regards.
