Solution

Dear student,

Litmus is a purple coloured dye. It is extracted from a plant 'Lichen'. On adding acid to litmus solution, the colour changes to red and when base is added to litmus solution, the colour changes to blue.
Litmus paper is a kind of pH paper, it is made by treating the paper with natural dye lichens. It can be of blue colour or red. The blue litmus paper in acidic solution changes to red. Red litmus paper in basic solution changes to blue.
