Current is rate of flow of electronic charge. Simply, flow of electrons. In the presence of electrical potential, electrons flow from negative terminal to positive one, so the current.
But, there is a term called "conventional current" which flows exactly opposite to electronic current and is usually used to solve the circuit diagrams
