When an electric current is passed through an electric circuit, the electrons flow from the point at low potential to the point at high potential. The positive terminal of a cell is at higher potential and the negative potential is at a lower potential. Hence, in a circuit electrons flow from negative to positive terminal. This is opposite to the direction of flow of conventional current.
