Defining distance between two points.

The length of the line segment connecting two points is called the distance between them.

If $A(x_1,y_1)$ and $B(x_2,y_2)$ are the two points in a plane, then the distance between them is

$AB=\sqrt{{\left(x_2-x_1\right)}^2+{\left(y_2-y_1\right)}^2}$

Hence, the distance between two points $A(x_1,y_1)$ and $B(x_2,y_2)$ is $AB=\sqrt{{\left(x_2-x_1\right)}^2+{\left(y_2-y_1\right)}^2}$.
