Solution

Step 1: Given information

Time is taken by light to reach earth,

Time=3×109

By converting it into seconds we get,

Time=3×109×365×24×60×60=9.46×1016s

The speed of light,

C=3×108m/s

Step 2: Finding the distance of the star

Distance=speed×time

By substituting the given values we get

Distance=speed×time=3×108m/s×9.46×1016s=2.838×1022km

Therefore, the star's distance (in km) from which light takes 3×109years to reach the earth will be 2.838×1022km.
