Energy Density:

  2. It can be quantified in terms of gravimetric energy density (energy density per unit of mass) or volumetric energy density (energy density per unit of volume).
  3. When evaluating the energy efficiency of different fuels, gravimetric energy density is important.

The Energy Density of a Battery:

  1. Calculating a battery's energy density is rather simple. It's as simple as dividing the mass of active material by the integrated cell voltage vs. capacity curve.
  2. The voltage should be inVoltsand the capacity in Ah(Amperehours) to get the value in the appropriate units (Wh/kg).
  3. The energy density of a battery is the amount of energy it holds in relation to its weight or size. When comparing weight to size, we call this the specific energy density, and when comparing size to weight, we call it the volumetric energy density.
