Question

What is the effect of change in concentration and temperature on the electrode potential of a given half cell.

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

Let's write the expression for relation between concentration and temperature as given by Nernst equation,

Ecell=Eocell-(RTnF) ln Q
From the expression both concentration and temperature are directly proportional which shows that increase of concentration and temperature had direct impact on electrode potential if concentration and temperature increased the potential reduced as temperature affects the performance and in similar way an decrease of concentration reduces the potential too.

Regards.
