Solution

Deforestation:

  1. It is the act of thinning of forest areas by cutting down their trees.
  2. This may be driven by various causes, like timber, industrial area, colonization, road building, etc.

Effects of deforestation:

  1. Carbon dioxide is known as a greenhouse gas as it helps in trapping heat within the earth's atmosphere.
  2. Plants play an active role in absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere for photosynthesis.
  3. So when plants are cut down at an alarming rate due to deforestation, it leads to the accumulation of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
  4. An increased amount of carbon dioxide leads to a significant rise in the temperature of the earth. This phenomenon is defined as global warming.
  5. Deforestation also degrades the environment.
  6. It reduces biodiversity as the significant removal of forest cover decreases the variety of plant and animal life present in a particular habitat or in the world.
