What is the electrically insulating material covering the axon of a neuron called?
Myelin sheath
The electrically insulating material on a neuron is known as the myelin sheath. It is made up of fatty tissues. Apart from insulation, it provides nutrients and oxygen to axons.
The dendrites are short fibres that arise from the cell body whereas axon is the long projection of a nerve cell. The axon carries the message from the cell body of one neuron to the other.
