What is the electronic configuration of chromium? Why is it different from other elements?
The electronic configuration of chromium is Cr=[Ar]4s13d5.
This happens because of the following:
a) Completely filled sublevels are more stable than partially filled sublevels.
b) A sub-level, which is exactly half filled is more stable than a partially filled sublevel.
c) Electrons will remain in the lowest energy state as this is the most stable state.
