We know that, energy of an electron=13.6Z2n2 eV
As the atom is hydrogen, Z = 1
To excite an electron from n = 1 to n = 2, energy would be absorbed.
Taking the difference between two energy states, we get
ΔE=EfEi
Therefore putting n = 1 and n = 2 and Z = 1,
ΔE=E2E1
=13.6(Z222)(13.6Z212) eV
=13.6(122112) eV
=(13.6)×(0.75)=10.2 eV
