Question

What is the equation of the plane through the point (1,4,2) and parallel to the plane 2x+y3z=7?

Open in App
Solution

Equation of the plane passing through the point (1,4,2) is

A(x1)+B(y4)+C(z+2)=0 ----- (1)

Since the plane is parallel to the plane

2x+y3z=7

So,

A2=B1=C3=k (K is any constant)

A=2k,B=k,c=3k

Putting the values of A,B,C in equation (1)

2k(x1)+k(y4)3k(z+2)=02(x1)+y43(z+2)=02x+2+y43z6=02xy+3z+8=0

This is the required equation of the plane .
