Question

What is the final phase of translation?

Open in App
Solution

Translation:

  1. It is the last step in the central dogma of molecular biology.
  2. In this step synthesis of proteins takes place from the transcribed messenger RNA.
  3. mRNA carries the genetic information to code for protein synthesis, in which amino acids are joined together.
  4. Translation involves three steps to make proteins, namely Initiation, Elongation, and Termination.
  5. So, the last phase of translation is termination in which the ribosome reaches a stop codon for which there is no corresponding tRNA which terminates protein synthesis and releases the ribosome.
  6. Stop codons are UAA, UAG, or UGA.
  7. Final result of translation is a sequence of amino acids or polypeptides.
