What is the final product of Spermiogenesis?

Open in App
Solution

Spermiogenesis:

  1. It is the process of maturation of the spermatids into sperm cells whereas Spermatogenesis is the process of sperm cell development.
  2. The male germ cell includes the spermatogonium which is an undifferentiated mitotically active germ cell, the spermatocyte, and the spermatid.
  3. Sperms are the male gametes produced by spermatogenesis in the seminiferous tubules of the testes.
  4. Rounded immature sperm cells undergo mitotic and meiotic divisions and a metamorphic change which is called spermiogenesis to produce spermatozoa.
  5. These nonmotile spermatozoa will become motile when they develop in the epididymis.
  6. Hence, Spermatozoa is the final product of Spermiogenesis.
