Blood clotting is also called coagulation, which is a natural process that prevents excessive bleeding when a blood vessel is injured.
A blood clot is a mass of blood that forms when platelet and plasma proteins stick together to stop the bleeding.
There are 3 stages in the blood clotting process:
Constriction of the blood vessel: Contraction of blood vessels by small muscles in their walls makes the movement of blood flow slow or blocked. Norepinephrine and epinephrine help in vasoconstriction
Formation of a temporary “platelet plug."
Activation of the coagulation cascade.
Formation of “fibrin plug” or the final clot.
Hence, Constriction of the blood vessel is the first stage of blood clotting.
