What is the first step in DNA replication?

Solution

DNA Replication:

  1. DNA replication is also called DNA amplification. This is the first process in the central dogma of molecular biology.
  2. It is the process by which DNA makes a copy of itself by polymerization reaction prior to cell division.
  3. This is necessary because DNA first replicates its entire genome so that the resulting daughter cells will get its complete genome.
  4. After replication among two DNA strands, one will be a newly synthesized strand and one will be a parental or old strand. This type of replication is called the semiconservative method of replication.

Unzipping the double helix of the DNA molecule :

  1. The very first step in DNA replication is unzipping the double helix of the DNA molecule, the unwinding of DNA occurs by enzyme helicase and gyrase.
  2. After unwinding the DNA forms a replication fork and both the strands act as a template for the formation of new strands.
