Solution

Kingdom:

  1. The five-kingdom classification was given by R. H. Whittaker.
  2. The five kingdom classification is based on cell structure, mode of nutrition, body organization, and phylogenetic relationship of the organism.
  3. The five kingdoms are: Monera, Protista, Fungi, Plantae, and Animalia.

Monera:

  1. Kingdom Monera includes bacteria.
  2. Bacteria are autotrophic or heterotrophic depending on their mode of nutrition.

Protista:

  1. Kingdom Protista includes all single-celled eukaryotes.
  2. Examples of eukaryotes: Chrysophytes, Dinoflagellates, Euglenoids, Slime-moulds, and Protozoans.

Fungi:

  1. Kingdom Fungi show a great diversity in structures and habitat.
  2. Most fungi are saprophytic in their mode of nutrition.
  3. Phycomycetes, Ascomycetes, Basidiomycetes and Deuteromycetes are the four classes of kingdom fungi.

Plantae:

  1. Kingdom plantae includes all eukaryotic chlorophyll-containing organisms.
  2. Examples: Algae, bryophytes, pteridophytes, gymnosperms and angiosperms.

Animalia:

The heterotrophic eukaryotic, multicellular organisms lacking a cell wall are included in the Kingdom Animalia.
