Question

What is the force between two small charged spheres having charges 2×107C and 3×107C placed 30cm apart in air?

Open in App
Solution

Let us consider two charges q1 and q2. According to the question, q1=2×107C and q2=3×107C

Distance (d) between q1 and q2 is 30cm=0.3m
Using Coulomb's law, the force between two charges is given by
F=14πε0.q1q2d2
( The charges are placed in air, k=1)
Putting the values of 14πε0, q1, q2 and d, we get F=9×109×2×107×3×1070.3×0.3=9×2×3×1053×3×102=6×103N
As the charges q1 and q2 both are positive in nature, they repel each other.
