Question

What is the force between two small charged spheres having charges of 2×107C and 3×107C placed 30 cm apart in air?

Open in App
Solution

Charge on the first sphere, q1=2×107 C

Charge on the second sphere, q2=3×107 C

Distance between the spheres, r=30cm=0.3m

F=q1q24πε0r2

Where, ε0= Permittivity of free space

14πε0=9×109Nm2C2

F=9×109×2×107×3×107(0.3)2=6×103N

Hence, force between the two small charged spheres is 6×103N. The charges are of same nature. Hence, force between them will be repulsive.
