Question

What is the force between two small charged spheres having charges of 2 × 10–7C and 3 × 10–7C placed 30 cm apart in air?

Open in App
Solution

Given, the charge on the particles are 2× 10 7 C and 3× 10 7 C. The distance between the charges is 30cm.

The electrostatic force between the charges is given by the equation,

F= 1 4π ε 0 × q 1 q 2 r 2

Substituting the values in the above equation, we get:

F=9× 10 9 N m 2 / C 2 × 2× 10 7 C×3× 10 7 C ( 30× 10 2 m ) 2 =6× 10 3 N

The electrostatic force between the charges is 6× 10 3 N and it is repulsive in nature.
