Retardation:

1. When the final velocity of the body is less than the initial velocity, then the body is said to be under retardation.
2. Retardation can also be named negative acceleration or deceleration.
3. If the velocity of the body increases, acceleration is said to have been positive. Similarly, if the speed decreases, acceleration is said to have been negative.
4. When any initial velocity $\left(u\right)$ is greater than the final velocity $\left(v\right)$, this is the case of retardation.
5. Acceleration $\left(a\right)$ can be expressed as:

$a=\frac{v-u}{t}$

Where, $u$ is the initial velocity, $v$ is the final velocity, $t$ is time.

Hence, the expression for retardation is $a=\frac{v-u}{t}$, when $u>v$.
