Question

What is the formula for a vernier caliper ?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Vernier caliper: Vernier caliper is a measuring tool that is used to determine the width, height, and radius of a body. In comparison to the usual scale, the Vernier scale on the main scale allows for more precise measurements.
  2. The formula for least count of a vernier caliper : Least count of vernier caliper = Smallest reading on the main scale/ Number of divisions on the vernier scale =1mm/10 divisions= 0.1mm
  3. The length of the object is determined by using the formula :
  4. Length=MSR+(VSRxL.C)
  5. Where MSR is the main scale reading , VSR is the vernier scale reading, and L.C is the least count of the vernier caliper.

Hence the formula for the length measured by a vernier caliper is Length=MSR+(VSRxL.C).
