What is the four-figure grid reference and how is it used?

In a four-figure grid reference, four-figure or four digits are used to locate something on a map. In every map there are both horizontal lines which are easting and vertical line, i.e, northing crosses each other and create a grid square. So, in grid square reference we can locate a particular figure on the map by taking the bottom left corner no. of the easting and upper northing no. to get the particular location. To find out a specific location on map four-figure grid reference is very useful and simple to use.
