Lysosomes are cell organelles.They perform a very specialized function

1. They have enzymes in them that digest the metabolic wastes and other worn out organelles inside the cell.
2. This is the way they periodically sanitize the cytoplasm.
3. However, if excess enzymes are secreted or if the enzyme bag bursts, it leads to the total digestion of the cell itself.
4. Thus the nick name- suicide bags.
