What is the function of bicuspid valve in the heart?

Valves: These are flap like structures that are present in the heart as well as in veins.

Function of valves:

  1. The valves prevent the backward flow of the blood.
  2. They act as one-way inlet of blood through one side of a ventricle and one-way outlet of blood through the other side.
  3. The heart has four valves namely: tricuspid valve, bicuspid valve, pulmonary valve and aortic valve.

Function of bicuspid valve:

  1. Bicuspid valve prevents the back flow of blood from left ventricle to the left atrium.
  2. It is also known as mitral valve.
