Centrioles are found in the centrosome which is present in the cytoplasm of all animal cells.
They are located close to the nucleus.
The centrosome consists of two centrioles that are made up of microtubules.
The function of the centriole is as follows:
During prophase, a single pair of centrioles are located at each pole. Centrioles organize the microtubules to form spindle fibers that pull the chromosomes to the opposite ends for cytokinesis to occur.
Centrioles are also modified to form the basal body of cilia and flagella.
The basal body secures the cilia/flagella to aid in locomotion.
