Dura mater is a sac that surrounds the arachnoid and has been altered to perform a variety of tasks and it is one of the three meninges of the brain.
The brain and spinal cord are protected by three layers of membranes that are called meninges.
The pia mater is the fragile inner layer. The arachnoid is the intermediate layer, a web-like structure filled with fluid that cushions the brain. The dura mater is the tough outer layer.
Functions :
The dura mater has a drainage system known as the dural venous sinuses that permits blood to exit your brain and cerebrospinal fluid to re-enter the circulation.
The dura mater is supplied with blood by your middle meningeal artery and vein, and it is crossed by your trigeminal nerve.
