There are three main functions which the heart performs are as follows:

  1. It moves blood through out the body through its pumping.
  2. It controls the rhythm and speed of our heart rate.
  3. It maintains the blood pressure of body.

Heart consists of four chambers which are as follows:

Right atrium- the right atrium pumps the blood to the the right ventricle.

Right ventricle- It is the lower right chamber of heart which pumps the oxygen poor blood towards the lungs through the pulmonary artery.

Left atrium - when the lungs fill blood with oxygen pulmonary vein carry the blood towards the left atrium.

Left Ventricle- the left ventricle is slightly larger than the right ventricle as it pumps oxygen rich blood to the rest of our body.
