Leg-haemoglobin is a special red-coloured pigment present in the nodules of leguminous plants. Its roles are:
● Acts as an oxygen scavenger (binds to oxygen)
● Prevents the oxidation and inactivation of nitrogenase even in the aerobic environment of the root nodules
● Allows smooth running of nitrogen fixation
