Question

What is the function of NaCN and CuCN in froth flotation method?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student

NaCN and CuCN act as depressant in the froth floatation process.

As a depressant they seperate the sulphide ores such as ZnS,PbS and allows PbS to form the froth with the air bubbles. They settle the other impurities and dont allow them to come in the froth.
4NaCN+ZnSNa2[Zn(CN)4]+Na2S
Here Na2[Zn(CN)4] is the impurity formed which settles at the bottom.
